Faces of India – 181, Gandhi Look Alike for Independence Day

You all know him, don’t you? No, not personally but the role he is enacting? He is the Gandhi look alike.

Yes, the little boy is doing the role of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi in a tableau. Oct 2nd was Gandhi Jayanti: Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday. Hence this post. This picture of Gandhi look alike was taken during Independence Day celebrations in a school in the outskirts of Tumkur district, Karnataka.

Children come up with lot of costume ideas for Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations. It is that day of the year when school kids dress up as national leaders, freedom fighters to be more precise. They shout JAI HIND with full enthusiasm, I had goosebumps just listening to them. Role or no role, every tiny hand holds the tiny flag, waving them vigorously and marching to beats of parade drills. Parents too line up to cheer their little ones.

Faces of India

a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011.
