Faces of India – 106, Vegetable Seller of Kolkata

Faces of India,

Faces of India is a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. Vegetable Seller of Kolkata

I was taking pictures of a market in the by lanes of Kolkata when this vegetable seller called me and asked to take his picture.

“Who knows, I may die in another couple of months. Let some people at least see me before that.”

I was taken aback by his request; though I got a feeling he was being dramatic. I told him it is not for newspapers but for putting it up on computer he seemed happy and asked me to mention he was a vegetable seller. He got chatting with me after that.

While there are many people who don’t like being photographed, there are many who crave to be photographed and share their pictures. Some have means to do so while some don’t. This vegetable seller of Kolkata definitely wanted some moments of fame and happiness. I was too glad to contribute.
