Faces of India – 326, Resident from Idukki, Kerala

Faces of India

a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. See more here…

Faces of India Woman in Kerala

This is a cropped image of the picture of a resident of Idukki Kerala. I took it from a distance. Her local costume and the green tub with some load caught my attention. I was trying to figure out what that load could be and as she approached nearer I saw them to be wet clothes.

And as she crossed I talked to her in Malayalam – did you go to wash clothes? I know it was a stupid question, I somehow wanted to get into conversation with her. She smiled and said yes but she didn’t stop to my disappointment and the thought of her hardship disappointed me even further.

I met one more woman washing clothes away from home. Who will carry water all the way home, better finish off the work at source itself – she had said. Same case here. Check her – Faces of India – 238
