Faces of India – 326, from Idukki, Kerala

Faces of India

a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. Faces of India Woman in Kerala

This is a cropped image of the picture I took from a distance. Her local costume and the green tub with some load caught my attention. I was trying to figure out what that could be and as she approached nearer I saw them to be wet clothes. And as she crossed I talked to her in Malayalam – did you go to wash clothes? I know it was a stupid question, I somehow wanted to get into conversation with her. She smiled and said yes but she didn’t stop to my disappointment and the thought of her hardship disappointed me even further.

I met one more woman washing clothes away from home. Who will carry water all the way home, better finish off the work at source itself – she had said. Same case here. Check her – Faces of India – 238

An interesting snapshot into the culture and people of India.

  3. Everyone’s story is special and worth listening to. I’m not surprised she caught your attention – there seems to be a lot of stories in her face. Great idea for a series too.

  4. This may sound silly, but as a cyclist I’m always paying attention to how smooth the roads are…this one seems in great shape…maybe a bike would make the task easier…neighbors could share one bike and agree to take turns going to do the laundry, since a bike could haul more clothes!

  5. A beautiful capture that shows the colorful culture of our country and the hard work and perseverance of the people. I love observing people.
