Faces of India – 323, Mahout from Shimoga, Karnataka

Faces of India

a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. Faces of India Mahout

A mahout from Sakrebailu Elephant Camp in Shimoga, Karnataka.

He has been a mahout for long. There are some 12 elephants in the camp. This mahout and his colleagues train the elephants for Dusshera festival in Mysore. The ease with which they move among the elephants stunned us. They make the elephants greet the tourists, garlanding them and they also allow the visitors to feed the elephants with banana.
