Faces of India – 296

Faces of India

a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. See more here…

Indian Woman

She a small scale business woman owning a small shop near Marikamba Temple, Sirsi, north Karnataka. I had to purchase some fruits and flowers for offering at the temple. As I approached her shop I could see she was busy attending several buyers. How she was attending several buyers single handedly was admirable! I got into chatting with her.

Her children are all grown up and married. She has grand children now. Earlier her shop was a little away. She feels lucky she could set up her shop near the temple now and the business is lot better. “Earlier mine was a small shop in the next lane, I got very few buyers. Now since I am selling better I could expand this shop. God is kind to me.”  See her shop below.

Puja materials on sale.

  • The way you bring to life these pictures is amazing!

  • Yay, it’s another edition of Faces of India! I absolutely love this series & your photos & stories. This lady has a little bit of crazy eyes going on but I’m happy to hear that business is going well for her!

  • What a great idea for a series! I always think it’s important to get to know the people of a country as much as the country itself… particularly if it’s your own.

This is very sweet of you. This is my favourite section on your blog. I am sure that she would be a very strong woman who has been able to take ahead her family so well.

  • Inspirational story! Thanks for sharing, Indrani.

  • Admire her positive outlook. Wonderful portrait 🙂

  • This makes me think of those pages called “Humans of ___”. Have you heard of those? Like Humans of Seoul. Humans of New York. You should start something like that (if there isn’t one yet). This story is really interesting. Imagine combining all your photos into one facebook page shared two or three a day. That would be amazing.

  • I love it that she has a shop. So interesting. It’s great that she was able to set up her shop near the temple. I can imagine that increases business. Nice to hear she’s thinking about expanding. She’s doing great!

  • Nice portrait. Thanks for the post _()_

  • I love knowing the stories behind each photo. I believe that every photo tells a story and it is up to us to find out what it is. This is a story of courage and perseverance.

  • Nice portrait and she sounds good business 🙂

  • She is a strong woman. She has a clean living. I admire her dedication toward her work. There are some people in our country who is much younger than her but do not do anything to improve their lives. They depend on other people for a living.

  • God bless her…Nice capture Ind

  • Small business women more then men are always enterprising; all inspiring souls

  • Good to know about her….a fighter.
