faces of india 271 guard pagri

The morning sun was casting the fine shadow of his headgear on his face. The golden threads were shining and each strand seemed distinct. The red and blue stripped frill standing upright just as proud as the man wearing it! Yes, it was a ceremonial occasion, the Republic Day. The security guards were dressed in their neatly pressed uniforms. That headgear is called “pugree”. It is also called “ready to wear turban” and sold in that ready form.

You can read about his colleague here: Faces of India – 251.
