Temple Pujari of Javagal

He is the 19 year old temple pujari of Lakshminarasimha Temple of Javagal, Hassan district of Karnataka. He was shutting off the temple for the forenoon session but on seeing us he willing reopened the doors.

He knew little Hindi and we managed to have small conversation. He chanted the mantras of prayers so well, and then he explained a bit about the idols.

He insisted that we visit the Hoysala Temple of Doddagaddavalli. When I asked him how much he makes per day in this work, he shied away from answering it. However he quickly said he was filling up the place for somebody else.

Can you guess what this Temple pujari of Javagal is studying? A mighty impressive answer he gave; he is doing his second year in diploma in computer science. I wished him: May you have a great future!

One of the pleasantest pujari I have met during my travels!
