Imposing façade of the Église St Jean Baptiste au Béguinage, Brussels. The church was constructed in 1676 for the country’s largest beguine community. The huge area housed 1200 beguine women. These women took up charitable work and followed enclosed living system after failed marriages or during widowhood. Even today it is a very popular place of worship.
