Bonbibi, Saviour of Sundarbans Forest

Bonbibi is worshipped by the Sundarban forest dwellers for protection from the man eating tigers. The tiger which is recognized as king of forests too is worshiped as Dakshin Ray. The little islands of Sundarbans have many temples dedicated to various Gods and Goddesses like Mother Narayani, Kalu Khan, Gazi Saheb. Bauli (woodcutters), Mouli (honey collectors) and fishermen worship them before they set off for their daily work. Each day they set off for work, unsure whether they will return safe and alive. Both Hindus and Muslims worship these local deities.

The picture below is for SkyWatch Friday. It is that of a temple in one of the islands there.
