Einstein House – Einstein Haus Private Museum Bern

Albert Einstein’s house: Yes, that was the main attraction for us in Berns. My fourteen year old and ten year old were all excited to see for real where this great scientist once lived. Einstein’s house is located very close to Zytglogge, Bern’s clock tower.

Einsteinhaus – Historic Site

Einstein and his wife Mileva lived here in Kramgasse 49 on the second floor from 1903 to 1905. He lived with his family in several houses in Bern, but this is the house where he worked on his theory of relativity.

This is the same environment and surroundings where Einstein conceived his great ideas and created his most important papers. So if you are a huge fan of Einstein then this place is a must visit.

Most of the furniture have been preserved and displayed in their original conditions. Photographs, with notes about them are displayed along the walls. This is the view from the window. Einstein must have stared out of this window thinking about the complex theories.

2 floors have great information videos photos and artifacts. Lot of family details, his upbringings, his story and his life after leaving Europe to his last years in USA are displayed. It can easily take an hour to go through the displays, if not more. The third floor shows a film that gives an overview of Albert Einstein’s life.

Some of his daily use things too are showcased. His house in Princeton, NJ where he spent the years from 1935 till his death is not open to public as per his wishes. So that makes his Bern residence worth a visit.

This house is a private museum. There is yet another Einstein Museum in Bern Historical Museum with separate ticket charges.

Students, children, senior citizens: CHF 4.50
Groups : CHF 4.50 each person (Rates in 2011.)

Timings for Einstein House Bern

Monday – Sunday 10.00 to 17.00hrs.

Einstein House is closed on Easter Sunday, Pentecost Sunday, National Day, 24-31 December and in January.
